The Baank-e-Loom project in Uttar Pradesh went a step ahead last month towards launching its exclusive e-Commerce website and social media channels by carrying out a professional shoot of handloom products coming out of the cluster. Further, to upscale production and improve designs, designers from Jaipur visited the centre to interact with weavers. NIFT Mumbai graduate Mr. Kaushal even hosted a brief session with design trainers and weavers on ‘production of a dense fabric’. Baank-e-Loom is a project run in partnership with Ericsson to digitally empower the weavers of Barabanki district.
April onwards, 15 volunteers from Saidanpur village would work with the Wireless for Communities team on ground to set up 150 nodes in the Sirauli-Gauspur block to target crucial spaces such schools, hospitals, panchayat bhavan and CSCs in the region.
Baank-e-Loom project aims to introduce digital interventions in key handloom areas to empower the weaver community and increase their livelihood by improving access to the market and enabling creative designs.
