Twenty two year old Ambika Kumari was born in a financially backward family. She was diagnosed with locomotor disability, after her birth. As a child, Ambika found it hard to mix with her peers as they rarely cared to involve her in while playing games. This led her to depression and exclusion at a very young age. But she was well determined not to get drowned in her own thoughts, but to find a solution.
She wanted to lead a normal life and had come to terms with her disability when her father passed away. This surfaced a new set of problems for her and her family- the responsibility of running the house was on her shoulders completely.
During a survey, DEF’s volunteers in Chokad, Jharkhand met her and explained the importance of registering on a portal, where she can find relevant and suitable jobs. One such opportunity was something she has been fighting all her life. This portal is developed exclusively for persons with disabilities and works like an interface between the job seekers and job providers.
She posted her information and started to wait for someone to call her. After few days Ambika got a call from a school and soon was offered a teacher’s job. Today, she is financially independent and takes her own decision, making her family proud.
