After the successful leg of 52 Parindey in 2015-2016, the project is back with Chapter II. After documenting initiatives and innovators that look at sustainable, environment-friendly vocations, 52 Parindey Chapter II will focus on India’s handloom sector. Over the next 52 weeks, fellow Rahul Karanpuriya will digitally documenting the history, heritage, culture and livelihood of 10 handloom clusters of India, adopted under DCDP. This will take Karanpuriya on a journey through Saidanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Barpali (Odisha), Nuapatna (Odisha), Musiri (Tamil Nadu), Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu), Pondicherry, Kollegal (Karnataka), Narayanpet (Telangana), Pochampalli (Telangana), and Chanderi (Madhya Pradesh).
At each of these clusters, he will research, experience and document the traditional and contemporary history in context of weaving, livelihood & lifestyle of the weaver communities, process and stages of weaving, transformation in design and style over the years, digital archiving of indigenous designs, and the presence of folk culture.
