DEF in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) and with support from the District Collector of Kozhikode hosted a Social Media for Empowerment Workshop in Kozhikode on August 12, 2016. The keynote speaker and chief guest, Prashanth Nair, District Collector & District Magistrate, Kozhikode, is known for setting example of excellently in utilising social media. He commands more than one lakh followers on Facebook, addresses each of his young audience and leads innovative crowd-funded campaigns through social media. A Facebook page called ‘Collector Kozhikode’, that Prashanth personally handles, has amassed 1,07,000 followers.
The workshop kicked off with a full house. The content elaborated on the significance of social media and current trends on social media. It helped the participants to identify the key components of their social media content strategy with an audience, content, organisational goals, and metrics. The other highlights of the workshop were gaining insights and learning about the most popular tools available for social media marketing. This training helped the representatives from NGOs, CBOs, bureaucrats, youth and entrepreneurs to learn how to effectively use social media to accentuate any brand presence and best practices for posting on social platforms through hands-on practical exercises.
Towards the end of the highly instructive workshop, the audience could comprehend ways to spread their content to a much wider audience and gain exposure by syndicating content out to multiple channels. A larger audience sharing their content means more traffic to their website and an increased opportunity for exposure.
