Today, information is the key to emancipation; and Soochna Seva, a project supported by the European Union and executed by DEF, aims to ‘inform’ the ‘uninformed’. In order to do this, Soochna Seva teams regularly hold public meetings, workshops and seminars, besides facilitating access to public schemes and benefits. This work is carried out with cooperation of community members, panchayats, block administration and even the district administration. To build the capacity of panchayats in West Champaran, Soochna Seva organised a workshop-cum-facilitation programme for the newly elected panchayat representatives in five blocks.
After the inaugural formalities, Soochna Seva representatives informed the participating members about the five delivery channels of Soochna Seva used for information dissemination — Soochna Seva Mitra, Soochna Seva Kendra, Call Centre, Soochna Seva Van and Mera App. This workshop was attended by village heads, ward members and block officers, among others, with the objective to:
- Give an overview of the Panchayati Raj and Soochna Seva
- Build a rapport with the newly elected panchayat representatives
- Initiate a dialogue between panchayats and the local community
- Offer digital citizen services to panchayats for improving community services at village level
