In today’s context a person is labeled as computer illiterate if one is not equipped with computer knowledge. Therefore computer literacy especially IT knowledge is very important in the lives of this generation. Intel Easy Steps ,the basic computer programme is going with full bloom in Tura Internet and Services Centre (TISC), Tura,West Garo Hills of Meghalaya.The course was introduced under Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) .
The programme was started from September 2011 and trained more than 300 trainees till now. In the last quarter October to December it successfully completed 12th batch with 25 trainees. Each batch of DLP programme contains 25-30 trainees.
The main aim of the programme is to make the indigenous local people IT literate. Under this programme another important component is Woman Digital Literacy Programme. To attract women and to bring women under IT platform it was introduced. Positive response is getting from the local women. In every quarter TISC is making fifty people literate in basic and advance IT. It is a big achievement in a place like Tura of West Garo Hills Meghalaya. Among the trainees fifty percent are women. The trainees are from different age group and also from different background. Trainees are from different background as Student, housewife un-unemployed, employee, retired employee etc.
The programme is getting good response from the local people as it is giving quality. The course is highly designed for new comer. All the steps are very easy and clear to understand. The programme is designed step by step for new learner. As well as theory practical is also here. Most of the beneficiaries had little or no computer experience. To them this was a “great opportunity” as one of them stated. Also for those who had had some previous computer knowledge, this was a very fruitful opportunity as it has helped improved their skills even more. With these programme indeginious people are getting a chance to enter to the IT and internet world. With the help of internet now they can easily access different type of information, online transaction etc. Every trainne is getting a chance to open and operate mail id, social networking site etc.
Besides IT, ICT training TISC also completed first batch of spoken English programme. In the first batch 25 trainees trained in spoken english. On october 16 TISC also organised Tura eNGO programme with 15 organization. In this workshop training was given to 30 representative from different grassroot organisation of Tura about website management. One colourful website is created for all the organization. In this way TISC is contributing in West Garo Hills development.
