Ayesha Sultana exemplifies the power of resilience and determination in challenging societal perceptions of disabilities. She demonstrates that it is not the physical limitations but the judgments of society that present the actual obstacles. Coming from Singhee Gram Panchayat in Birbhum, West Bengal, Ayesha’s journey is a testament to her incredible strength and indomitable spirit. Despite all the difficulties from a young age, Ayesha completed her studies along with Higher Secondary courses and a diploma in computer studies after getting married. Unfortunately, an illness forced her to pause her college education during her final year. However, staying true to her nature, she refused to give up. Between 2008 and 2010, Ayesha worked as a schoolteacher, dedicating her efforts to empowering individuals with literacy skills, thus enriching her community with the gift of knowledge.
Even though she faced additional challenges due to a heart condition, Ayesha remained steadfast in her determination. Her thirst for knowledge and independence fueled her progress. In 2014, she joined a Self-Help Group (SHG), which opened new doors for her, and with her involvement, she got connected with over 5,200 women from various SHGs, forming a support network. Ayesha’s leadership qualities and commitment quickly became evident, leading her to become a Sangha Coordinator, where she played a vital role in empowering women and enhancing community well-being. Through dedication, Ayesha improved her family’s situation and earned profound respect within her community.
Her recent appointment as a SoochnaPreneur Business Mitra underscores her unwavering dedication to promoting literacy and economic empowerment. In this role, she aims to transform her SBM Centre into a hub for women entrepreneurs by offering essential training in digital and financial literacy, entrepreneurship development, and business counselling services. Ayesha also assists women in her community through digital bookkeeping via an app, helping them establish and grow their businesses. Her efforts extend beyond sharing knowledge—they focus on transforming lives by empowering women to achieve financial independence and security.
Ayesha Sultana’s journey is a shining example of the power of resilience, solidarity, and self-confidence. Despite encountering numerous hardships, she has become a beacon of support and motivation for others—a true embodiment of hope.
