In the serene village of Old Ziro, nestled near the Community Health Centre, a journey began when a group of dedicated individuals embarked on a mission to establish a new community center. This is the story of their efforts to bring education, connectivity, and digital awareness to their community.
The journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: to create a hub of learning and empowerment for the people of Old Ziro. The team started by meeting with the respected Gaon Buras of the village. Their support and encouragement paved the way for what was to come.
To find the perfect location, the team reached out to building owners across the village. They received numerous suggestions and leads, all offered with a shared enthusiasm for the project. After careful consideration, a decision was made, and the team set its sights on a location near the Old Ziro Market.
To ensure a smooth transition and gain community support, the team engaged with the Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Old Ziro Market Committee. After productive discussions and collaborative planning, they received the green light to proceed. The centre was set-up in the second week of August.
Realising the importance of connectivity, the team conducted a survey of local government schools where they had set up Wi-Fi infrastructure. They meticulously assessed the line of sight for Wi-Fi signals and expanded coverage to serve more locations. They also utilised telescopes provided by the central government to support the local schools, further enhancing their digital capabilities.
Parallelly, a dedicated effort was made to raise awareness about digital safety and security. Champions were chosen and educated about the significance of digital safety in today’s technologically driven world. The champions, in turn, shared this vital knowledge with their peers and the community. While most embraced this newfound knowledge, there were a few who initially hesitated. However, with time and persistence, even the most skeptical individuals started to appreciate the importance of digital awareness.
