Aslam Khan, a farmer from Alwar, Rajasthan had very little place for technology in his life. He did not even have a smartphone until recently.
With no formal education, Aslam cannot read or write. Even after purchasing a phone he found it tough to use since operating it involved a lot or typing and reading text on the screen. This used to make him very uncomfortable.
Curious to learn how to use technology for his own benefit , especially to get information around the covid pandemic and to remain in touch with loved ones, Aslam learnt about Google Assistant.
With the help of Google’s artificial intelligence virtual assistant, a whole new world opened up for him. He learnt how to see weather forecasts for his crops, listen to news, and ask questions related to farming, nearby vendors, other work and even entertainment related things.
More recently, he has been using Google Assistant to keep himself updated with the latest information and guidelines around coronavirus and all government schemes and guidelines.
“Google Assistant has changed my life. From getting answers to my queries to switching on my phone’s torch just by talking into my phone, has made life much easier for an illiterate like me. I don’t know how I would have remained informed about current government announcements and schemes around covid-19 without this.”
