On one hand the Covid-19 crisis has put a halt in income generating activities for many people across the country, but on the other it has also helped create alternate livelihood opportunities for many.
DEF’s Smartpur center in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh trained local women on how to stitch masks with minimum resources. The team was initially provided with cotton, string and other materials required, thereby helping reduce their expense and offering motivation to lean.
The training was crucial as it helped generate an alternate livelihood for women in the area and help them transform into entrepreneurs. Also, the availability of the masks acted as an important resource for the local administration in terms or its free distribution and providing it to local shops for purchasing at nominal rates.
The local women of Visakhapatnam contributed significantly and had a huge role to play in the administration’s fight against coronavirus and protecting its citizens.
