The central and state governments have put in place many such schemes to uplift the underprivileged, however, people in rural areas are unable to access what is entitled to them. There is lack of awareness about government schemes, improper information around the schemes and more than anything else the biggest challenge is applying for these schemes. Last mile reach and connectivity is a major issue in India with so many remote locations and so is the case with the government run entitlements and schemes.
People who are illiterate are unable to apply for schemes even if they know about it- this I where DEF’s Soochnapreneuers (Information Entrepreneurs) step in and connect those in need to government schemes.
DEF has 1,000 Soochnapreneurs across the country who are working towards bridging this information gap and providing people access to the benefits they are entitled to. Each Soochnapreneur serves at least 300 people per month in their community and the villages around. With a presence in 1,000 locations, these Soochnapreneurs serve 3,000 villages and in most cases they are the only digitally enabled service providers in that region.
This month’s newsletter highlights a few stories from the ground where Soochnapreneurs are actively working towards providing people the benefits they deserve.
