The Digital Excellence Centres have been launched to cater to different stakeholders who can acquire digital skills in a comfortable and sustainable way so that they become self reliant, skillfully ready to take part in the digital economy and contribute in handling the e-waste produced alongside it.
A ‘centre’ is a place to which a lot of energy flows in, at which a lot of processing takes place and from where creativity and productivity flows out. A Digital Excellence Centre designed by Digital Empowerment Foundation does not fail to meet up to the definition of a centre as it has people from varied backgrounds coming in, serves as a space for learning on different levels and creative ideas and employment opportunities pouring out of it. The Digital Excellence Centre located at Chanchalguda, Hyderabad acts as a hub for various such activities with youth showing more interest in making the most of the available resources.
The centre continues to host a SoochnaPreneur who provides access to various schemes and entitlements to the community along with conducting awareness camps to inform the people about the Aadhar card, voter ID, scholarship schemes, etc.
The centre is a space for TASK (Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge) whose aim is to provide coaching on soft skills, java script, C & C++ language, competitive exams, classes on aptitude and reasoning test, and provide job-oriented skills for the students of the community. The students are allowed to enrol in the courses of their choice and requirement. This space has been preparing employable youth through training and exposure, and as a successful outcome, four students from the centre have been selected for jobs in the IT sector.
Apart from this, digital classes are also held that cover the basic operational knowledge on MS Office tools. The 230 students that are registered are practising on making a powerpoint presentation by inserting videos, audio, layouts, animations, designs, etc while exploring the excel sheets by learning about the formulas to create marks and salary sheets. Digital classes also touch upon the basic knowledge of a computer and create awareness about online and social media platforms.
One of the characteristic features of a Digital Excellence Centre is that it ensures to complete the cycle of digital interventions by introducing Digital Green Prakriya that supports a repair cafe. It aims to reduce electronic waste and encourages the reuse or recycling of electronic products. The cafe imparts information on environmental justice and sustainability so that everyone is better prepared for the future. A camp was organised where the harmful effects of e-waste were discussed along with detailed processes to sustainably use the electronic devices.
