Although opportunities are always around the corner, some use them, others fail to see them and very few truly understand the value in them. Gulafshan’s story brings out the aspects that encourage one to see the value of the opportunity at hand and the potential outcomes of it.
Within the context of social and economic structures, the organisation and reorganisation of the functional units of the society keep taking on different forms. Within a short span, the conveniences often turn into necessities and become integrated in the economic cycle. Some enjoy the privilege of being part of this momentum while many others tend to fall off the wagon because of the wide gaps in the distribution of resources. One such major aspect currently challenging the underprivileged is the access to digital education. It is hard to imagine an economic engine that is void of digital intervention. Hence, it becomes all the more important that everyone in the society have access to update oneself so that the opportunity to contribute is not denied. Digital Empowerment Foundation has ensured to provide such space through the Digital Literacy Program that is launched at the Community Information Resource Centres (CIRCs) across the country.
Gulafshan, a 21-year-old girl from Brahmpuri, Delhi, is one of the beneficiaries of this program from the CIRC located at Jafrabad. She is currently pursuing her graduation from IGNOU and is aware of the importance of being familiar with the digital world. As she faced a lot of difficulties due to lack of digital education, she was quick to utilise the learning opportunity offered at the centre and showed her support to be more active in the era of technology. She also showed interest in business planning and entrepreneurship alongside diligently working to complete her graduation.
After successfully completing her course, she has landed herself with a great job to support her family. She plans to start a business of her own, and she is leaving no stones unturned to fulfil her dream. For her, the most important thing is to be financially independent and be there with her loved ones at every stage of life.
