Digital Empowerment Foundation has been attempting to bring the digital world to as many remote places as possible. One such effort is through the CDERP initiative which has recently focussed on improving digital literacy in Kashmir.
While access to computers is a necessity in various fields, there are many people who have zero exposure to the digital world. As an organization that is trying to bridge the information gaps in the society, it becomes all the more important and challenging to introduce digital literacy in remote parts of the country. Under the C-DERP program, Digital Empowerment Foundation has been working towards training the teachers from the villages to work with computers.
DEF provided computers and Online Digital Literacy Orientation training to STEARS Org. trainers in Kashmir. The training sessions were anchored by Saba, DEF’s District Coordinator, who is also taking care of other center activities in Kupwara.
The training session started on 12th January 2023 and lasted for ten days with 8 trainees. Saba covered all five books on Digital Literacy which is a part of the Start Kit. During the training sessions, the teachers also shared that these sessions were extremely useful for them and that they had not used computers before this session. Being unaware about any such training, the teachers did not even know how to make reports and create different types of documents on the computer. The teachers also showed interest in learning these subjects, as they had never had the opportunity to learn them before and were pleased to have gained a lot of useful information. Basic to advanced computer courses were covered during the sessions such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Operating Systems, Hardware, Software, etc.
The teachers showed further enthusiasm to take up more such training and looked forward to applying their learnings.
