Nirmala is interested in digital devices from the earlier stage but she was not educated on how to use these devices. Through the Digital Empowerment Foundation, she could learn digital tools and manage her customer database.
Nirmala Chandel resides in Kumbharaj Tehsil, about 70km away from Guna district. After a few years of marriage, her husband left her with the responsibility of nurturing her 8-year old son alone. She owns a smartphone but was unaware of the many advantages and was using it just as an emergency calling device. One of her community members made her aware of Project Revive and the way her life can change if she becomes digitally literate.
Since she had become the sole breadwinner for her family, she established a grocery store. As a trainee with Project Revive, she gained knowledge about digital financial literacy. During this learning journey, she received many benefits from her smartphone and came to know about Google Assistant, learned to do online transactions on the phone, learnt how to do online transactions on the phone through Google. She got training on MeraBills and registered her entire entries of her income and expenses in this particular application. MeraBills changed her perspective towards data management and digitally empowered her. Presently, she uses MeraApp to note down accounts of entire customers and their expenses, items sold, how many people paid their debts, how many people have borrowed from her and it proved to be very useful for her business.
She said: “I can keep the information of all my products in MeraBills, keep the account of daily expenses in it, note down the daily income through MeraBills and can keep a note of our daily income through MeraBills. At the end of the month, I can see the report of our entire business dealings and get summaries of entire transactions.”
