Change is possible when bold decisions are made and bold decisions are made when one is confident and clear. Such confidence and clarity, along with the power to implement changes in the surrounding environment, comes when a person has means to be financially independent.
Financial security becomes all the more important to women who manage the household and look after the well being of their children. Digital Empowerment Foundation recognised rural women to be the changemakers and ensured that opportunities to be financially independent form the core of all the development programs. Over two decades of implementing such programs, DEF has proudly been able to share thousands of stories of change where women from rural India as well as people from marginalized communities have taken up the mantle to help themselves and the community grow through social enterprises.
Stories of Vijayalakshmi and Patel Arfoza give a refreshing ray of hope as young girls from villages are seeking opportunities out of choice rather than compulsion to be able to contribute to the society in some way. Women like Roshini, Rekha Khatun and Pratima are spearheading the initiative to step out of social stigmas in their own ways. Along with these, this edition brings some stories of independent learning, preparing the ground for more skillful and passionate adults who aspire to take up responsible roles in the society.
