The Badangpet Digital Excellence Centre has marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between the Department of Public Libraries of the Government of Telangana and the Digital Empowerment Foundation. This innovative initiative, under the Integrated Digital Public Library Programme, aims to transform traditional libraries into modern hubs for knowledge, information delivery, and digital empowerment.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Srihari Sankar, Deputy Director of the Department of Public Libraries, Govt. of Telangana, who unveiled the first of 33 Digital Excellence Centres across the state. Accompanied by Mr. Manoj, Secretary of Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha in Badangpet, Rangareddy District, the officials embarked on a journey to redefine the role of libraries in the digital age.
The Badangpet centre, established with the support of the Department of Public Libraries, sought to bridge the digital divide by offering training in digital literacy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), digital skills, Makerspace activities, and access to various online courses. The primary focus was on empowering disadvantaged communities that lacked the means to access such educational resources.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the beginning of a transformative era, where the Digital Excellence Centre showcased its state-of-the-art facilities. The centre featured dedicated sections for Makerspace, digital literacy, Soochna Seva (Citizen Information Entitlements Delivery), STEM Learning, START, and Media Information Literacy Kit demonstrations.
Students from local schools, avid readers, and library users were provided with hands-on experiences, delving into creative kits to prototype modern technology used in cars, drones, and robotics. The demonstration of Virtual Reality cases, created by students in other centres run by the Digital Empowerment Foundation, showcased the boundless potential of technology in education.
With the doors officially open, the Digital Excellence Centre in Badangpet is now a centre of learning, offering its services, programs, and resources to the community. As citizens embark on their journey of growth and development, this initiative stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and digital empowerment in shaping the future of education and knowledge dissemination in Telangana.
