The COVID -19 pandemic affected social, economic, institutional and governance settings in an immeasurable way. In India, it has put a spotlight on economic inequalities and fragile social safety net which forced the vulnerable communities in rural parts, daily wage earners, vendors, shopkeepers etc. to bear the economic brunt of the crises. Reverse migration of workers from cities was an addition. They were denied access to several critical rightful entitlements as citizens that is losing access to basic welfare entitlements such as subsidized food (PDS), lack of verifiable proof of identity was also barring them from accessing basic facilities, access to banking and financial services was compromised as they were unable to produce the required government documents and in families moving as a unit, children suffered the most.
Thus, to overcome the issues faced by the vulnerable communities, Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) launched an ICT-enabled and community-specific relief programme through virtual community and service facilitation.
