MANTHAN DIGITAL INCLUSION FILM FESTIVAL
Digital Empowerment Foundation has decided to stretch the envelope within Manthan Awards this year. We are embarking on a brand new journey, ‘Manthan Digital Inclusion Film Festival’, which is being held on the sidelines of Manthan Awards on 4th of December, in Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
‘Manthan Digital Inclusion Film Festival’, is about communal participation, engaging, learning, awareness and discussion through creative and innovative films produced on the subject of digital empowerment of grassroots communities through various ICT tools such as Broadband Internet, mobile, community radio, TV, Website, IVR, Computers.
ICT innovations have picked-up pace in the last few years. And each effort and achievement has a story to tell. Each story has the capacity to inspire. And each inspiration needs to be nurtured and set on a course for the realization of more innovations. No other medium takes the momentum forward better than films. It’s potent medium. They have the potential to bring change, transform and provide perspective.
Hence, ‘Manthan Digital Inclusion Film Festival’, aims to encourage the production of more films on the use of ICT for development and empowerment of backward communities.
This year we’ll be screening films from India, Bangladesh and Nepal. The subjects range from community radio, health, wireless network, use of social media for development etc.
This is just a beginning. Our goal is to scale-up the ‘Digital Inclusion Film Festival’ as an individual event in the near future. We’d aim to take it all over South-east Asia and Asia Pacific, to give an impetus to the production of more films on the use of ICT for development across the region.
We have a mission, which is much closer to realization than one would imagine.
