Ramilaben Govindbhai Patel, a 43-year-old woman from Pentarura village in Sabarkantha district, Gujarat. Ramila never had an opportunity to go to college. Yet, she earns enough money annually to be at par with some corporate CEOs. Ramilaben’s source of livelihood is her dairy farm. On an average, Ramilaben’s dairy farm churns out 550,000 litres of milk and last year made 110 million rupees in a year.
Twelve years ago, Ramilaben was a normal homemaker who milked her few cows in the backyard every morning and distributed the milk to her community. Things changed once she decided to become a milk producer for the local dudh mandali (a village-level milk society). Once registered, she was able to secure a bank loan to purchase five crossbred cows. Ramila wanted to earn more income to support her family.
Today, her farm ‘Jai Ranchod Dudh Utpadan Kendra’, spreads over five acres, provides employment to 40 workers, and is home to 280 cows. With complete support from her husband Govindbhai, Ramila is an exceptional woman who has inspired other women in Gujarat to realize their own potential.

Ramilaben visited Israel with her husband recently to learn how to upgrade her farm and to setup a state-of-the-art calf-rearing facility. This is currently in progress.
