My name is Rekha Kumari. I am from Jharkhand. In our community, people used to make clay pots and items such as pitchers, toys, and tea cups, which were all made either on a wheel or by hand. Now, these items are made using a machine’s wheel, but there are still some problems. Earlier, there was a lot of poverty in our village, and when someone fell ill, they would mortgage their land to a moneylender for treatment. I formed a group with some women and started depositing ₹5 in it every month. When a woman faced difficulty, we would withdraw that money to help her, and gradually, all the women joined the group. Now, no one mortgages their land in our village, and I am currently working on making other women self-reliant by training them. Many people in our community are also sculptors, and I am training all the women to move forward by giving them training.
