Pawan Kumar, a 25-year-old from Sultanpuri in New Delhi comes from a financially backward family. He is suffering from an intellectual disability and wasn’t sure if the vaccine was safe for him. He believed that it would have negative side effects on him. However, he along with his family wanted to find out the truth and asked around. Unfortunately, some of the people they met discouraged him from taking the vaccine saying that it is life threatening for persons with disabilities.
One of DEF’s coordinators met Pawan and his family during his visit and told them about the importance of taking the vaccine. However, he could not make them believe that the vaccine was completely safe for PwDs. The coordinator then went one step ahead and conducted a counselling session with Pawan’s family to clarify their doubts and misconceptions.
All of this hard work helped and Pawan’s family was satisfied with what the coordinator told them- he was ready to take the vaccine. A cab was arranged for them and they were picked up and dropped home after the vaccination.
