Mamta Vati, a 29-year-old resident of the Maraucha village in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh has become a source of positive change in her community as a Digital Didi With a family of four to support and a monthly income of just Rs. 5000, her journey with the Digital Empowerment Foundation over the past four years has transformed her life and the lives of many others.
Mamta’s commitment and dedication to various projects, including Digital Sarthak and Digital Financial Inclusion, had already begun to gain her recognition in her village. Over time, she found that the resistance she once faced from one of the village members had decreased significantly.
Her most recent attempt as a Digital Didi was the Menstrual Health and Hygiene program. Through this program, Mamta received comprehensive training and knowledge on menstrual hygiene. She eagerly shared this newfound wisdom with the women and adolescent girls in her village, sparking a wave of awareness and change.
One of the key tools that empowered Mamta in her journey was the LMS Chatbot, which provided her with essential knowledge in digital literacy, online banking, and basic entrepreneurial skills. Armed with these skills, she ventured into the world of social media, mastering platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Telegram, and even became proficient in making online bill payments.
Mamta’s impact didn’t stop at knowledge sharing. She took the initiative to sell SmartPads, a menstrual hygiene product that she had learned about during her training. These SmartPads not only proved to be a healthier alternative to commercial sanitary pads but also offered cost-effectiveness, comfort, and softness. Through her efforts, Mamta managed to sell 10 SmartPads, earning a profit of Rs. 500. She realised that if she persisted in this work, she could significantly increase her income, providing greater support to her family.
