Infopreneurs have been serving as the crucial link in rural India by creating awareness about the government welfare schemes among the local communities which has further opened more doors to improve and grow.
Even the most innovative, skillful and effective people need a platform and the right kind of support to put these qualities into action for a fulfilling outcome. Especially in rural India, lack of such platforms or the environment creates obstacles in many creative minds to be able to channel it in the right direction. Providing digital literacy which further equips women with digital skills helps in them getting access to an ever expanding world of the internet and avail benefits from the government welfare schemes aimed at providing better opportunities to grow. Infopreneurs who are trained to provide such digital literacy classes in the villages play a vital role in enabling this.
In the village of Asoga, located in Durg district of Chhattisgarh state, Infopreneurs are making a difference. Asoga is a small village with around 5,000 residents, mostly belonging to marginalized communities. The primary livelihood in the village is agriculture.
Among the villagers, there are women students who receive training from the Infopreneurs. These women come from diverse backgrounds, belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, and the general category. They have completed education levels ranging from higher secondary to graduate and in some cases even postgraduate degrees.
Through MeraApp profiling, Infopreneurs are able to gather valuable information about the educational, economic, and social conditions of the community. This helps them understand the specific needs and interests of the people they serve.
Since the establishment of the Infopreneur centers and the availability of the MeraApp, the community has witnessed positive changes. Now, community members have greater awareness and improved access to government schemes and entitlements. The Infopreneur centers serve as a crucial resource, providing essential information and acting as a communication channel for the villagers to benefit from government schemes and assistance. Furthermore, the Infopreneurs have successfully trained women in the village, equipping them with knowledge about government schemes, application procedures, and other related matters. As a result, the community members can leverage government programs to enhance their social and economic conditions.
