Champe Khan was struggling to sustain himself and his elderly parents living in Baytu, in Rajasthan’s Barmer district. A differently-abled person from a poor family, Khan had been facing discrimination and other hardships all his life. He had been unable to avail the government’s Disability Pension due to lack of awareness and documents. DEF’s Samarth SoochnaPreneur (SSP) Narpat Balwan came across Khan and his family during a field visit and immediately started helping them out. SSP Balwan managed to apply for Khan’s Disability Certificate, required to avail the pension, by getting all the necessary documents made. He also made sure that Khan receives a Free Travel Card, a scheme by Rajasthan government allowing free bus service for differently –abled. Now, Khan gets Rs 750 monthly as pension, thereby reducing some burden of his expenses. “I was not confident if SSP Balwan would be able to help me out, but his hard work and knowledge have done wonderful things for me. I have encouraged others like me to seek his help to bring about a change in their lives.”
