In my community, women face numerous challenges. They are often confined within the boundaries of their homes, constrained by age-old customs like dowry practices, child marriages, and human trafficking. Access to quality education for children is limited, and healthcare facilities are scarce. Unemployment, especially in securing suitable jobs, remains a pressing concern. But I have taken a step forward in the last few months. Gathering a group of 15 women from the village, I have created a space for grassroot innovation. Together, we embarked on a mission to save money. Today, our collective efforts have borne fruit, amassing lakhs of rupees. Previously, villagers would turn to affluent moneylenders for financial assistance. However, now these women support each other, extending a helping hand whenever needed. Their unity has become their strength. Together, they have found the courage to raise their voices against societal injustices, advocating for change and fighting for their rights. This local endeavor isn’t just about financial independence. It’s about fostering solidarity and empowerment among women. It signifies a shift towards self-reliance and community-driven solutions to age-old problems, which is something that always drives me.
