A meeting was organised by Soochna Seva with Mukhiya and Ward Council of Balthar panchayat on July 27, 2017. In this meeting, Soochna Seva laid out the past and future of the work in Sikta Block in Bihar. The team stressed on the need for empowering panchayats through capacity building of the council members to enable them to improve governance at the panchayat level. Further, it was highlighted that in order to improve the governance, it is imperative to improve the service delivery of extension bodies namely, aanganwadi, PHCs and school at panchayat level.
The result of the meeting was fruitful. The village head and ward council agreed to hold regular Ward Sabhas at the panchayat level to allow ward members and people of the ward to come together to discuss how they can improve the functioning of aanganwadis.
As a follow up to this meeting, a combined meeting of Ward 1 and 2 was held on August 9, 2017 where 42 women and 23 men representatives converged to discuss the challenges that aanganwadis face and offer solutions for the same. The occasion was also used to discuss the Right to Information (Act) to ensure rightful beneficiaries are not deprived of their entitlements. Further, the Soochna Seva team also encouraged community members to open bank accounts; participate in the Pradhan Mantri Swachata Abhiyan and the Lohia Swachata Abhiyan; and avail the digital citizen services offered at Soochna Seva Kendras.
