My name is Sri Sanjib Naik, and I reside in the Letekoojan Tea Estate, located in the Jorhat district of Assam. In our community, I have witnessed the numerous challenges faced by the tea garden laborers. Despite the existence of welfare benefits, many tea garden laborers continue to struggle due to low wages, long working hours, and inadequate healthcare facilities. Accessing basic services such as banking and digital facilities poses a significant challenge as it requires them to travel long distances, further adding to their hardships. Additionally, I have observed the detrimental impact of poverty, hygiene issues, and the alarming rise in alcoholism among school-going children in our community. Recognizing the urgent need for action, I have collaborated with organizations like DEF to conduct awareness programs on health and advocate for better access to government schemes and scholarships. Through my center, I assist community members and students in navigating government procedures and applying for benefits, resulting in several individuals successfully availing themselves of these opportunities last year. Education is a key focus area for me, and I prioritize imparting basic computer skills to empower community members and students with knowledge about job opportunities, healthcare, and education. Despite the existing challenges, I remain firm in my commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of tea garden laborers, ensuring they receive the support they deserve to improve their overall well-being.
