Reflecting on her decision to join the program, Gudiya expressed her happiness at gaining insight into life beyond her immediate community. The newfound knowledge of computer functioning and online banking instilled in her a sense of empowerment for her future endeavors.
Digital Empowerment Foundation has strived to strengthen the poor information ecosystem in rural communities in India especially in the backward districts that has alienated a majority of India’s population from social and economic entitlement gains for over two decades. Our SoochnaPreneurs create ripples of digital change in marginalised communities and earn respect and recognition because of their exemplary work. In an attempt to uplift newly established centers and to help their communities, our SoochnaPreneurs organised a “Yojana Camp” to provide an opportunity for the community members to get connected to the schemes and facilities that the government has initiated.
Through these camps, it has become evident that citizens are unaware of their rights and entitlements and the “Yojana Camp” is the perfect opportunity for them to scrutinize their eligibility for government benefits. During the camp last month, a large number of wage laborers applied for the e-shram card which connects them to 17 essential schemes, including various types of pension facilities, insurance policies, accidental claim facilities, marriage related schemes, and family planning entitlements etc.
The Yojana camps also facilitated awareness about Ayushman Bharat Yojana scheme and saw community members applying in large numbers. Under this scheme, financially vulnerable families can obtain healthcare treatment of approximately 5 lakhs for the registered family members and covers 27 types of treatment plans.
Designed to also ensure that entitlement delivery is happening sectorally, our SoochnaPreneurs also provide information on the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, since most of the population are farming communities. The scheme is pertinent because farming families are entitled to financial assistance of Rs. 6000/- annually.
DEF’s Yojana Camps are strong resources for awareness regarding government benefit schemes and entitlements. Hosting regular awareness camps play a vital role in connecting communities to crucial services, breaking barriers of the prevalent digital divide and fostering inclusivity.
