The use of social media in this time and age has become wide and diverse in nature. Keeping aside its negative aspects, it is believed to be an effective medium for various public relation activities, marketing, brand building, advertising etc. Weavers of Musiri cluster have limited access to such mediums. Even after the use of multiple strategies by these institutions, the mindset and the understandings of these weavers could not be changed as it is a slow process involving behavioural change. Ignorance at its peak and sceptic thoughts not letting them break out of their comfort zones in regard to product diversification was quite visible at the weaver’s meeting.

DEF through its training programme introduced them to the world of social media to bring about positive changes in their lifestyles. The benefits of using social media was explained to them and how their products will be visible to the whole world than just within the walls of the
society or the local store. The session went on to open doors to the exciting
world of social media.
Product Diversification Training
Product diversification training mainly focused on getting the weavers to bring about better ideas and designs into their weaving so as to fetch better marketsfor their products.
Jacquard is a device functioning as per the basic concept of binary system.
Complex designs can be easily woven in to the products using the device. The designs can be brought into the products by using punched cards that are fed.
A meeting was also conducted with the Design and Production officer, Thanjavur division, wherein the officer was impressed and sought help in developing the designs and diversifying the products.
Advanced Tailoring Training
The second round involved advanced tailoring training, inaugurated at the
Manamedu center in Musiri. There were diverse participants availing the basic tailoring training at the center which even included engineering, mathematics and other graduates. The employability factor of theis training is higher in Manamedu village.
