The Displaced Project has been helping certain communities by providing access to digital tools which has created new pathways to improve their standards of living.
Often, a sense of purpose aligns dedication, hard work and drive to learn in achieving one’s goals and ambitions. The Digital Strengthening of Displaced Communities project taken up by DEF which facilitates learning among those communities that are displaced owing to social issues has seen many examples of such endeavor. DEF seeks to implement this project which supports displaced populations in the states of Delhi and Haryana by setting up 10 digital and information centers, which will enable 5000 direct and 5000 indirect beneficiaries from the target population, especially women and girls displaced population, to be digitally equipped for the purpose of livelihood, education, and community development. The focus area of the project has been in equipping women and girls with the knowledge of Office 365 tools for education and skill development and digital skilling of women and girls in Digital and Financial Literacy, Digital Tools and e-Governance avenues.
Gungun is a 16 years old resident of Khichripur. Her father works in the flower mandi and lives a decent life although her father works hard to provide basic needs. She is planning to help her father to set up his business online after her higher studies. Hence, she is taking training to learn about computers. She is a very dedicated student and always excited to learn new things on the computer. She is a regular student who has completed MS Word, MS excel and she is just about to start working on powerpoint. She has also learnt about the internet, social media, online payment, Email, ticket booking etc.
Gungun can now make many cover pages, posters, forms, and resumes using MS Office 365 tools. She is a very active student and interested to learn advanced courses like coding, web development etc. She is trying to teach her mother to use a smartphone, understanding the need and benefits of it, hoping that she will find it much easier in the future.
